The Race for “Equality” – ‘Gay’ Pastor Now Lobbying Against Pro-Family Legislation

Equality Symbol We’ve all run across the constant headlines which point towards the type of “Militant Homosexuality” that simply cannot fathom the idea of preserving the societal base of the family, and which cannot even picture observing those darned “moral principles” and “right or wrong”-Oriented ideologies which they contribute to being nothing more than “obstructions” towards “progress” and/or “equality.”

Recently a self-identifying homosexual pastor was given the task of lobbying against pro-family legislation passed in the state of Mississippi. Rob Hill, the pastor behind the controversy, is a self-proclaimed homosexual and is now expanding his work in the church to working as a lobbyist for an organization deemed the “Human Rights Campaign,” Or “HRC” for short. Before leaving the pulpit in exchange for his new career within the lobbying sector of political activism, he was the Pastor for a progressively-oriented Methodist church in Jackson, MS. The “Broadmeadow United Methodist Church” prides itself on its progressive form of worship, and proudly proclaims itself as a “diverse church that is welcoming to all.” In regards to Hill’s new position with HRC, there isn’t much of a difference in regards to the progressive, equality, and diversity-oriented form of thought and ideology which guides both organizations. According to HRC’s own website, HRC “advocates on behalf of LGBT Americans, mobilizes grassroots actions in diverse communities, invests strategically to elect fair-minded individuals to office and educates the public about LGBT issues.”

The basis of the controversy, and the cause of Pastor Hill’s employment, is to oppose and actively lobby against the “Mississippi Religious Freedom Restoration Act” (SB 2681) which states that “State action or an action by any person based on state action shall not burden a person’s right to exercise of religion, even if the burden results from a rule of general applicability.” The basis of the bill is to protect religious liberty for those who hold strongly to any religious system of belief, but that hasn’t stopped the legislation’s progressive opponents from labeling it as a means for the discrimination against the homosexual, transgender, and LGBT communities, which is arguably the main purpose for Hill’s employment with HRC.

This, my friends, is truly the “Race for Equality” as stated in the title of this article. We are living in a new progressive era of tolerance, equality, and diversity; but does that mean we should compromise on our values? As Christians, we are aliens to the world and to the actions, laws, and societal changes of the world and its people.
