Life Lessons: Building Muscle (Daniel 3:17)

If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.” Daniel 3:17-18 ESV

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were in a “hot” situation. They had been confronted with not worshiping the golden statue of Nebuchadnezzar and now were faced with the consequences of the king’s punishment, certain death!

However, these three men believed and had faith in God, blessed Jehovah. They were not only willing to put their faith to the test but exercise it too! So much so that even, as stated, if God did not deliver them, they were okay with what God desired, His will, not theirs. They put the situation in God’s hands, put aside their comfort, and let Him decide what was best, not only for them but especially for Him.

Consequently, they were placed into the fiery furnace only to be delivered by God Himself! They exercised their faith without a second thought and God built their faith muscles! So much so, King Nebuchadnezzar himself proclaimed, “blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel and delivered his servants, who trusted in him, and set aside the king’s command, and yielded up their bodies rather than serve and worship any god except their own God.” (Daniel 3:28 ESV)

However, who can argue with the results of their obedience? The young men, in the face of their faith being tested, responded by exercising their faith and trusting in God. God responded by saving the young men which resulted in God’s glory. When you trust in Jesus, you exercise your faith, and the results will always be for His glory and your blessing.

Never should we be afraid of the testing of our faith. Never should we be afraid to let go of comfort. Allow God to strengthen our faith muscles and use us for His glory by trusting in Him!
