Colbert quotes C.S. Lewis at San Diego Comic-Con
Fans of J.R.R. Tolkien tend to be fans of C.S. Lewis, and vice versa. Which is probably why Stephen Colbert, well known for his passion for Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, chose to quote C.S. Lewis. During his introduction of a panel of The Hobbit cast members at the San Diego Comic-Con, said this of the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies:
“The movies broke upon the world, and to steal a line from C.S. Lewis, “Here were beauties that pierced like swords and burned like cold iron.” Here were movies that would break your heart, good beyond hope.”
Colbert is such a fan of Middle Earth that he scored a cameo in ‘The Desolation of Smaug’ as the ‘Laketown Spy’. Wearing the costume he wore in the movie, Colbert appeared in front of some 8,000 audience members and went on to host a make-shift talk show asking various questions of the panel which included Peter Jackson, Phillipa Boyens, Kate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Elijah Woods, Andy Serkis and others.
